Rafael Prieto
b. 1981, Mexico City. Lives and works in New York.
Founder and creative director of Savvy Studio, a design studio based across New York and Mexico City; Casa Bosques, an experimental cult chocolate company; Casa Bosques Books, an art-forward purveyor of literature in Mexico; and Pensión, a private guest house above the bookshop.
Rafael Prieto works at the intersection of art, design, and object. His practice moves fluidly between space, form, and experience — finding coherence through a sustained attention to context, material, and cultural specificity.
His installation work has been presented at the Judd Foundation, Villa Necchi Campiglio, Manitoga — the home and landscape of designer Russel Wright — and the Serpentine Gallery. Recent exhibitions include Emma Scully Gallery, New York, and Galerie Sardine, where he presented There, When alongside textile artist Kritika Manchanda — soft sculptural works in cotton that occupy a space between object and memory.
His second solo exhibition with Emma Scully Gallery, The Future of the Past, is on view through December 12 — works that sit at the edge of furniture and sculpture, some carrying the original stone, others holding only its memory.
